After Molly learnt to ride her bike with no stabilizers, the next day we headed off to Castlewellan for a spin round the lake. The girls loved it, as did the grown-ups, as they could speed off into the distance and still be seen.

A brisk 5km walk/cycle (which was impressive for someone who n jus learnt to ride a properly), and after taking in the sights and sounds of the path around the lake we returned to the car park for lunch. As keen campers we have our own wee gas stove so cooked up some hotdogs and fried onions. The stove is so handy to have on our adventures as it takes away from the monotony of sandwiches. Once devoured we set our sights on the maze… 🤯🤪
Well, that was a long 45 minutes. Kids panicking that they’ll never get to the park. Parents thinking I wonder if we can lose the kids in here🤣. The thrill, excitement, nervousness and ultimately sense of achievement that you get from what was once the largest such maze of its kind in the world is great. Well worth having a go and remembering the reasons it was planted. The views of the Mourne mountains at the centre and stunning.

All in all its a great day out and I’m sure we will be returning at some stage with our tent to pitch up and enjoy this terrific park again. There’s so much to do around the lake, on the lake or even in the lake that a daycan be spent here easily without noticing the time.
