Downhill kite festival 2019

August ’19

On a gloomy and rainy day on the north coast we arrived at Downhill kite festival 2019. Spotted this last year as we were on our way home from camping and thought it is a must for next year, and, 12 months on we made it. Though once we were directed to our parking space the rain came down and we sat looking at each other wondering if it would end. After 10 mins it eased and the overwhelming thought of “we haven’t came all this way for nothing” came over us and out we got. Trudged up to the entrance and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

A feast of kites and colours whizzing around above your head and in the distance. Carefully trying not to get decapitated by wayward youngsters and their kites (including ours I might add), we walked all around taking it in. The kids loving the chance to fly their kites amongst some absolute monsters. Such a picturesque setting as it is, even in the rain it’s hard not to enjoy the surroundings of Downhill demense and of course Mussenden temple. The views from the windows are breathtaking and a great spot to shelter when the rain swept in heavy again.

With loads of stalls, burgers, activities and even the odd machine gun to play with (supervised by the army of course) you can easily wile away the time and forget yourself for a few hours.

Kids love it, grownups love it. See you in 2020 kite festival!!!

Ps. With new and better kites, maybe even grownup ones. 😁
